We lost Betty in February 2021. As you may remember, Betty did the 10 PM to 2 AM shift on WMMS for many years and was one of the first major, female rock and roll air personalities in Cleveland, joining the station in 1974. She was the first female deejay in Cleveland to achieve #1 ratings in her time period and has been acknowledged by many female deejays as a major role model. She moved to Lead, South Dakota in the 1980s and had a long run on powerful 100,000 watt KSQY out there before retiring some years ago.
All of us who worked with Betty absolutely loved her..
We lost Steve Church in 2012. Steve was the brilliant Chief Engineer at WMMS and was also the host of a Sunday night talk show on the station called "Livewire" which featured an eclectic lineup of guests dealing with everything from the paranormal to cutting edge technologies. Later, he founded Telos Systems, an industry leading broadcast equipment design and manufacture com
We lost Len "Boom Boom" Goldberg in 2006. "Boom" was the signature voice of the WMMS station identification pieces and also the host of "Solid Gold Sunday Morning" which featured rock oldies from the 50s and 60s. I am pretty sure that when he entered the pearly gates, God said "can you show me how you do that voice?".
We lost Tom "Tree" Kelley in the 1970s. Tree was the original WMMS Production Director in the station's very earliest days. He moved to Los Angeles in 1972 and was tragically killed in a robbery attempt shortly thereafter. A terrifically talented individual whose life was cut short far too early.
